FAQs
A digital compact camera is a good camera to start with. They’re affordable, compact and come with all the automatic functions to help you on your photographic journey.
When you are shopping around for your new camera, you should consider the resolution, measured in megapixels (MP), the zoom type, automatic functions, the viewfinder & screen and the type of video recording available.
A DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Camera features a mirror to directly reflect the image from the lens to the viewfinder. On the other hand, Mirrorless cameras don’t have a mirror and the light that passes through the lens and onto the image sensor are then displayed on the rear screen (and not a viewfinder). Given the lack of a ‘mirror’, Mirrorless cameras are smaller and lighter than DSLRs.
Most new cameras, especially DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras will be built with a dustproof, splashproof and sometimes freezeproof construction, meaning you can use them even in harsh conditions. Some digital compact cameras are ‘tough’ and may be waterproof.
A digital camera will provide high-quality images, especially for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. While digital cameras are bigger and more expensive than smartphones, they offer advanced technologies and more storage space than the average smartphone.
